Vaginal lubricant or moisturizer: which one to choose?
When should you use a vaginal moisturizer or vaginal lubricant?
This is the most frequently asked question by our customers! We therefore present you with important answers as well as a very useful comparison to help you make this choice more easily.
Generally speaking, a good vaginal moisturizer is essential, a must in the intimate routine of anyone facing the pangs of vaginal dryness, whether as a preventative measure or as a long-term treatment. On the other hand, a good quality lubricant can also be very effective in relieving all the discomfort associated with painful intercourse, especially for women suffering from endometriosis, dyspareunia or even vaginismus. Which one to choose and in which cases?
Let's start by better understanding the specifics of a vaginal moisturizer. It is worth noting that for this comparison, we have chosen our favorite products in these respective categories to explain the difference to you: the YES VM and the YES WB .
Comparison between YES VM Vaginal Moisturizer and YES WB Water-Based Lubricant
The pH
The pH of both YES VM and YES WB are matched to typical vaginal pH, meaning both are ideal for vaginal use.
Osmolarity
In a vaginal lubricant, the osmotic concentration or what is called osmolarity - a fundamental data that has a major impact on the cellular health of the vaginal mucous membranes - would be slightly lower (hypo-osmotic) or even close to that of human plasma (iso-osmotic). This means that it would release water molecules more quickly, rehydrate the tissues and facilitate sexual intercourse by creating a sliding sensation. For more information on the criteria for choosing a good vaginal moisturizer, see our article on this subject.
YES WB intimate lubricant is designed to release water molecules even faster than YES VM, to rehydrate and lubricate dry tissues instantly and therefore facilitate penetration.
Long-lasting vs. instant hydration
As we stated above, the osmolality of a perfect vaginal moisturizer would be iso-osmotic, meaning that its water concentration level would be identical to that of the vaginal tissues. This is the case for YES VM, which is a slow-release moisturizer that has been designed to allow water molecules to be released as needed, with the hydration rate being determined by the degree of dryness of the vaginal tissues. The drier they are, the more water molecules will be released. Unlike YES WB, YES VM has a long-lasting effect that lasts from 1 to 3 days.
Just like YES WB, YES VM is particularly effective in instantly soothing and calming irritation, itching and burning sensations.
