Yes, condom size matters!
Admit it! If you have a penis, you've probably used a tape measure to measure its size. For a long time, we were led to believe that the length and width of the male penis were important and that the bigger it was, the more "virile" we were. Mainstream pornographic productions have only reinforced this rather bizarre preconceived idea of hyper-masculinity.
The fact is, most people don't care about the size of their partner's penis. A UCLA study found that among heterosexual couples, 84% of women were satisfied with the caliber of their partner's penis. A Dutch study found that only 20% of women found the size of their male partner's penis important, while 77% found it unimportant or "totally unimportant."
However, on the other hand, penis size can matter, at least when we're talking about condoms! Let's remember that the primary function of this contraceptive is to provide protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) - it's not just AIDS, many other infections are on the rise such as chlamydia, herpes etc. - during sexual intercourse. It is also a relatively effective means of contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancies. The condom we choose to use can therefore have a direct impact on our health by reducing the risk of diseases in particular. It is therefore important to know that, if the " condoms " do not work properly if they are too small for the penis - this could cause the condom to rupture. If the phallus is too small for the condom, there is a risk of fluids escaping, which defeats the purpose of wearing one in the first place.
Sex can also be uncomfortable with a poorly fitting condom. According to a study of over 436 male respondents, 44.7% reported poorly fitting condoms. These respondents were more likely to report that breakage, slippage, and difficulty reaching orgasm reduced sexual pleasure for both participants. They were also more likely to report removing the condom before penile-vaginal sex was complete—which defeats the purpose of the condom in the first place!
The caliber of the phallus is therefore important in the sense that it dictates the size of the condom.
Importance of condom size in relation to penis size
We know what you're thinking: penis length really matters for condom size, doesn't it? Most of the time, it doesn't. You see, condoms are rolled up the shaft of the penis until they reach the bottom of the shaft. Most condoms are about 7-7 inches long, so they can fit any penis shorter than that. Where phallus length matters for condom size is when the penis is longer than the condom. That's why we sell brands like Hex Respect and larger Mister Size condoms - for those with longer, not necessarily wider, penises.
For many of us, girth is key to finding the right size condom. If the penis is too thick, the condom may be too tight, which can lead to discomfort and possibly breakage. Too thin, and the condom may slip off or come off, which can lead to a mix of fluids. In either case, the discomfort can lead to a loss of sexual arousal for one or both people or the risk of transmitting sexually transmitted diseases/infections to each other.
How to know your condom size?
To determine your condom size, you need to measure the length and circumference of your penis.
Length
While not as important as girth, we need to make sure your condom is long enough. It's pretty simple, if your penis is less than 7.5 inches long, any regular condom length will work for you. Since the average erect phallus length is 5.2 inches, according to a study by the British Journal of Urology International of over 15,000 people with penises, the average condom length will work for the majority. Anything bigger than about 7.1-7.5 inches and you'll need to consult the chart below to find the right condom for you. But don't stress, we've got you covered.
How to measure your penis length?
- Place a ruler or tape measure at the base of your erect penis.
- Press the ruler into your pubic bone as far as it will go. Fat can sometimes hide the true length of your penis.
- Measure your erect penis from the base to the tip.
Circumference
Here's the important part. The average penis circumference is 4.56 inches according to the British study. The average condom is designed to accommodate penises between 4.5 and 5 inches in circumference. Without getting too statistical, the average condom size only fits about half of the male population. For the rest of us, other condom sizes will fit better, protect better, and be more comfortable.
How to measure your penis girth?
Unless you have a flexible tape measure handy, the easiest thing to do is perhaps to go to our partners Mister Size's website and print out their handy tape measure . You simply wrap it around your erect penis (not too tight, not too loose) and read off the size that fits you.
Alternatively, you can:
- Use a piece of string or a flexible measuring tape.
- Gently wrap the string or tape around the thickest part of your penis shaft.
- If using string, mark where the string meets and measure the distance of the string with a ruler.
- If you are using a flexible tape measure, simply mark the measurement once it reaches your penis.
So now that you know your penis size, what else do you want to know when choosing a condom?
